How To Fix a Leaking Spout

Fixing a leaking tap is easy if you follow these simple steps.

  1. Turn off the water supply.
  2. Remove the faucet handle (the screw might be hidden under a decorative cap).
  3. Using an adjustable wrench, unscrew the packing nut, which is located under the handle.
  4. Carefully remove the stem or cartridge. Depending on the design, you will either pull or unscrew it.
  5. Examine the o-rings and sink washers on the stem or cartridge. Using a flathead screwdriver, remove any that are damaged or ageing.
  6. Apply plumbing grease to the new o-rings and washers before installing them.
  7. Reverse engineer the steps you took earlier – be careful not to tighten anything too forcefully as you might damage components.
  8. Turn the water supply back on and slowly turn on the taps for a quality control check.

Follow these easy steps and any tap leaking from spout issues should be over!
