FIX-A-TAP AUSTRALIA (previously known as Blackwell Trading Company) was founded in Sydney, Australia by Ken Robertson in 1972. The company commenced business as a small wholesale supplier of plumbing and general hardware products with Ken personally calling in on hardware stores in the Sydney Metropolitan area, Gosford, Newcastle, Wollongong and Illawarra.
The nerve centre of the company was the now infamous shed/warehouse located at their family home in Wahroonga. Ken’s wife would order the stock and his children, Louise, Andrew and Ian would pre pack stock after school earning half a cent for every bag of 100 tap valves and washers.
1979 - Len Bonucelli became the first employee to join the company, after he and his wife sold their hardware store at West Pymble. He has since retired.
1981 - Ken founded the Hardware Importing Company with Graham Bicknell coming on board. Graham’s expertise enabled them to enter and eventually dominate the wholesale and interstate markets.
1982 - With business booming, FIX-A-TAP moved to bigger premises on Salisbury Rd, Asquith.
1985 - Having had continued success and further expansion, FIX-A-TAP was nominated for the National Small Business Award by NAB.
1989 - Further expansion saw FIX-A-TAP move into their current location in at Leighton Place Asquith. It was at this time the iconic brands of FIX-A-TAP, FIX-A-LOO & BOSTON were born.
1991 - Ken’s son Andrew spent many years overseas playing competitive tennis and joined the company as the Marketing Manager. He now holds the position of Chief Executive Officer at FIX-A-TAP. That same year Ken's other son Ian also joined the company as the Operations Manager and today holds the title of Chief Operating Officer.
1996 - FIX-A-TAP was awarded the BBC/Hardware House National Plumbing & Bathroom Product Supplier of the Year. This was the same year that Ken decided it was time to take a step back from the daily operations from the company.
1997 - With the desire to maintain superior quality products, FIX-A-TAP invested considerable amounts of resources towards maintaining benchmark Quality Assurance Practices. Their quality commitment extends to complying with Quality Assurance Services (QAS) Watermark Accreditation, Australian Gas Association Regulations and ISO 9002 Accreditation.
2004 - Blackwell Trading Company became FIX-A-TAP AUSTRALIA in, capitalising on the strong brand recognition that the FIX-A-TAP brand had developed within the market.
2005 - FIX-A-TAP introduced a new range of Stainless Steel Bathroom Cabinets and Mirrors under the Lindoni brand.
2008 - FIX-A-TAP became a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant committing to their environmental responsibilities by conserving resources and facilitating the re-use and recycling of packaging materials.
2011 - With Andrew Robertson having a passion in supporting junior tennis development within Australia, FIX-A-TAP established a sponsorship program whereby giving junior tennis players the opportunity to continue pursuing their dreams through mentoring and financial assistance. FIX-A-TAP sponsored up and coming Junior tennis player Abbie Myers. FIX-A-TAP today remains the leading supplier in quality maintenance plumbing products, providing their customers with the ultimate plumbing solution.
